Let’s Talk Boudoir Prep!
One of the most common questions I get is: How do I prepare for my boudoir session? And honestly, it’s a great question. Most of you aren’t professional models (and that’s totally okay!). How would you know what to bring or how to get ready?
I’m glad you’re thinking about it because showing up unprepared is the worst—like showing up to school without your pencil and realizing you didn’t study for the test. (Does anyone else get secondhand anxiety just thinking about that?)
That’s why I’ve got you covered with 5 Boudoir Prep Tips to make sure you’re ready to slay your session:
1. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
Drink plenty of water the week of your session. It clears out toxins, helps your skin glow, and reduces bloat. Plus, let’s be real—don’t you just feel so much better when you’ve been drinking water and skipping the sugary stuff?
2. Get your hair & makeup professionally done.
Getting your hair and makeup professionally done is a game-changer for your boudoir session. It’s not just about looking amazing—it’s about feeling confident and camera-ready. Take the time to pamper and spoil yourself.
3. Clean and shape your nails
Sometimes, you don't think about it, but your fingers and toes are both important to have done or cleaned up. I love to grab close-ups of your hands, connecting with the pieces of you that make you who you are. As for feet, well, those usually aren't the focus, but they often make an appearance. You don't want cracked nail polish and half-broken nails distracting you right from the first glance!
4. Bring more outfits than you think you’ll need.
It’s always better to have too many options than not enough! For example, if your session includes up to 3 outfit changes, bring 5 or 6. Why? Because we’ve all had that moment when an outfit we thought was perfect suddenly doesn’t feel right the next day.
Plus, if we have extra time, we’ll keep shooting!
5. Don't wear restricting clothing before your session
Trust me on this one pleasseee.. If you wear restricting clothing before your session, you WILL have lines imprinted on your body! It takes a lot of time to edit those lines out. So, save your photographer's life and wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing before your boudoir or empowerment session.
